After taking a look at both Newspapers, I realize a lot of differences and similarities. For example: The newspapers today are much more cleaned up and nicer looking. Also at the first of every paper, the “humble servant” left a small message for the buyers to read. As far as looks, the paper was ratty; it only contained two pages, and items that would interest government officials, military personnel, and business leaders. Also the newspaper had been constructed from half of a foolscap sheet.
No I do not believe that the government should have this kind of power today. Everybody has freedom of speech and their own opinion. Just because the government has its conspiracies, they don’t want anyone to know how bad they really are. As soon as someone says one bad thing about the government they are shunned because they believe that they have this power when really they don’t.
I believe that this comparison was made because it is somewhat true. Back all those years ago they had no source of media other than this, but yet each and every one of us could have contributed what we thought. I did not find this observation surprising because I completely agree with it. All we have today is basically just an updated version because we have upgraded technology. If it wasn’t for all this new media and technological devices, we would still be using only the newspaper.
I think that these newspapers are still being published for many reasons. The number one reason would have to be that they are trying to get their points across. Another reason is that some people like to be obnoxious, so maybe they just keep the papers going because they know that they can. A lot of these editors and people working with the press do not care what other people think and don’t care if other people’s feelings get hurt.
I would have never thought that the first newspaper in Canada would have come out in Halifax. One would think that it would have come out in a way bigger city with more people to see and enjoy it. Halifax was not settled long before the paper came out, with this being said there would have been a lot less people to see what it was. I think that it would have gotten larger a lot quicker if it would have been released somewhere else in Canada first. By the time it reached the smaller provinces, everyone would have known about it and it would have been a huge hit.
